The 2024 Arts for LA State of the Arts Summit, held at The Ebell of Los Angeles, brought together over 400 advocates, artists, educators, and leaders from the Los Angeles arts community to explore this year’s theme: Legacy. This theme invited participants to consider the lasting impact they hope to leave within the arts. Mayor Karen Bass addressed the summit via video, followed by LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, who underscored the need for a cultural legacy that reflects Los Angeles’ diversity.
The event featured a range of discussions, including a panel moderated by Rose Chan Loui, which focused on “Legacy of Nonprofit and Philanthropy”. This conversation explored essential questions around sustainable support for nonprofit and philanthropic work in the arts. Panelists discussed the importance of unrestricted, multiyear funding, transparent grant processes, and access to public spaces, all key to strengthening the local arts ecosystem. Leaders like Gustavo Herrera, CEO of Arts for LA, emphasized that while progress has been made, continued collaboration is crucial to building a more inclusive creative economy in Los Angeles
