Philanthropy, Business, Government, and the Homelessness Crisis

On April 12, 2024, the Honorable Karen Bass, Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, came to UCLA Law to engage in a discussion about the homelessness crisis. About 100 students and community members from across the campus came to listen to Mayor Bass’ conversation with retired State Senator Kevin Murray, President & CEO of the Weingart Center.  Dean Michael Waterstone welcomed Sen. Murray and gave introductory remarks about the importance of the issue to the law school community.  LMPN Faculty Director Jill Horwitz talked about the work of the fledgling Lowell Milken Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofits, and LMPN Executive Director introduced Mayor Bass and Sen. Murray.  UCLA Law covered the event in a news article published on its website, “Mayor Bass Visits UCLA Law to Discuss Philanthropic Responses to Homelessness”.
